I'd really like to know the answer to this as well...the same thing happened to me. I got dropped on my head pretty hard about 4 weeks ago and suffered an intense concussion (no bleeding or cracks in the head, though). I'm two and a half weeks late on my period, taken 6 EPT tests which were ALL negative. I'm not pregnant, so why the missed period? I've read that concussions can cause significant stress to your body which can make your periods messed up (either get too many, too light, or not at all). Other then that, I have no explanation since Im normally very scheduled with my periods.

I'm not a doctor.

Stress in general can cause you to miss a period, so a traumatic event such as a car accident, a death of a loved one, or even a huge test can cause you to miss your period.

And if it's just causing you to be late, it's amazing how quickly after you relax that your normal period will start.

Yes, not only can a concussion effect the menstruation cycle, but increasing research is showing that the menstruation cycle also effects how women recover from concussions. While recovering, you may experience lighter periods, more frequent periods, or greater time between periods. Sometimes, periods may not occur for weeks or months after injury. Women may also have trouble getting pregnant.

Get a comprehensive medical exam. This should include blood work and maybe a urine screen. Make sure you discuss with your provider any role your medications may play. Women should get a gynecology exam. Ask your doctor to check your hormone levels. You should talk with your doctor on different treatment options for hormonal changes due to Traumatic Brain Injury.

Moreover, researchers have found that women injured during the two weeks leading up to their period (the premenstrual phase) had a slower recovery and poorer health one month after injury compared to women injured during the two weeks directly after their period or women taking Birth Control pills.

No, having a concussion cannot delay your period. Your period is determined by your menstrual cycle.
