The term cousin in Kryptonese has a slang usage that Clark Kent doesn't know. It comes from the old Kryptonian nobility times. The old Kryptonian nobles were much like European nobles in trying to marry amongst only the other nobles. This soon meant that when a noble married he was probably marrying some cousin. This became a bit of a joke among the commoners, so that when news of a royal marriage occurred they would ask which cousin are they marrying. This joke eventually became slang so that whomever was getting married people would ask, "Who is your cousin?" meaning "Who are you marrying?" Clark being taught Kryptonese indirectly doesn't know this. More importantly, what will be found out is that Zor-El was an only child and the House of El (or "L" on a different Krypton) is broad and the fathers of Kal-El and Kara-El are not really brothers but got that title when they promised their children to each other. Kal and Kara were part of an arranged marriage and thus "cousins." Jor-El and Zor-El both having children that were 'cousins' people started calling them brothers, due to this and having the same last name. The two were originally very good friends and worked together so both simply accepted the designation and used it commonly.

It could be said that Captain Marvels lightning bolts were mystical, and magic harms Superman. It all depends if the power of Asgardian lighting is magic related, and it could be. AS Power Girl is less powerful than Superman, Thor would mop up the place with her...in my opinion.
