It was announced in late 2011 that Karen Gillan would be leaving her role in Doctor Who as the Doctor's sidekick Amy Pond along with her husband Rory Williams (played by Arthur Darvill). On March 21st 2012 it was announced at a press conference that Jenna-Louise Coleman (now known professionally as Jenna Coleman) would be portraying new assistant Clara Oswald. She made her first appearance in 2012 Series 7 opener 'Asylum of the Daleks'.

Karen Gillian left Doctor who because other people really wanted to be the doctors companion. What i don't get is i would think more people would want to be the doctor than the doctors companion. I don't know. But i think it was a very sad way to end Amy and Rory's time there. Even Rose that was really sad. I wish i could be the doctors companion but i am only 12.
