The answer to that changes depending on which decade you ask the question. The most accepted answer is either the red giant that was their star blows up (film) or the core of Krypton became unstable and highly radioactive which is also where kryptonite comes from.
There was a lot of radioactivity in the core of Krypton, suposedly from the wars that Krypton had years before Kal-el was born. Over time the radiation built up in the planet's core and caused it to explode.
Superman's home world of Krypton was destroyed from a nuclear chain reaction from deep within the planet .
Planet of Krypton
Superman came from planet Krypton after it exploded on a rocket sent to Earth by his natural father Jor-El just before he was killed.Superman comes from the planet Krypton. He landed in Smallville, KS, where he was raised. He currently resides primarily from Metropolis. It is often depicted in the Northeast part of the US, but the exact state is rarely identified.
Krypton was a planet, but when it exploded, the debris drifted into space and it contained radiation.

yes, but it is likely that it won't last very long. Of course though, the sun may not be a planet but it is made of explosive compounds.
Krypton is an imaginary planet from the show Superman.

i dont think so
Kal-El--Superman's real name--was born on the planet Krypton. He was shot into space by his parents before the planet exploded. Thus, radioactive fragments of the plant Krypton are called "Kryptonite."
The Planet CryptonThe planet Krypton.
I suppose it could, but how could the core of the planet GET HOTTER? This only happens in comic books; Jor-El's home planet of Krypton exploded, and the baby Kal-El fled in a rocket ship to Earth, becoming Superman. In reality, the cores of planets can't get hotter unless some outside force CAUSED it to get hotter.
