Be careful with your aim though, make sure that you are directly in front of both squirtle and mankey before you throw the ball. After that, mankey will be knocked over to the bottom on the other side of the cliff. Move a little further and you will run into him again. Once you see him, hit him with a pester ball and he'll roll over onto the switch that opens the gate.
