The unstoppable force of ambitious directors and CGI.
James Dean, the Hollywood heartthrob who died in a car crash in 1955, will be digitally revived for the film Finding Jack, directed by Anton Ernst and Tati Golykh. The film will focus on "the existence and abandonment of more than 10,000 military dogs at the end of the Vietnam War," and itâs set to premiere on Veterans Day 2020, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
CGI teams will recreate Dean using historical footage and photographs; another actor will provide the characterâs voice. The filmmakers don't seem to see anything creepy about this. Hereâs a (pretty unbelievable) quote from Ernst:
"We searched high and low for the perfect character to portray the role of Rogan, which has some extreme complex character arcs, and after months of research, we decided on James Dean."
While Deanâs family granted the directors permission to use his image, the public reaction to this news has been far from positive. Check out this scathing tweet from Chris Evans:
Iâm sure heâd be thrilled ?
This is awful.
Maybe we can get a computer to paint us a new Picasso. Or write a couple new John Lennon tunes.
The complete lack of understanding here is shameful. https://t.co/hkwXyTR4pu
