"From my knowlegde, it was originally going to be the Nintendo Revolution. The Revolution controller had an analog stick, start button, select button, and the "DO" button. The original purpose of the "DO" button was for simplicoty of games so that everyone can play. Now the reason why this console wasn't released was the fact that with only the "DO" button, not many games could be created. Even Nintendo's trademark game, Mario, would be very boring and dull for people because even the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) had more buttons. So they came up with the Nintendo Wii. The reason for the name was so that in every region and country, the name would be exactly the same and easily recognizablesince it was so simple. They also decided to add a lot more buttons than even the Nintendo GameCube had.
