It's probably because the company think it would be no fun having a website without making any money, it's quite awful to be honest. I agree with you though, my Dad has only let me be a member once, even when I beg him, he won't because he says it's too expensive. There's not really much point in becoming one though, because when your membership ends, you lose everything. (Unfair, right!?) This is why moshi monsters is good, because the only thing you lose is your puffle and your monster's colour. You get to keep your furniture and house.
