He's a very good sprinter, which means he can run really fast at top speed for short distances.
Sonic can run at his top speed for much longer, but he takes some time to reach that speed.
Also fear is a good motivator for running really fast.

Why does Sonic turn into a werehog?
It was a side effect of Dr Eggman's machine, when Eggman drained the Chaos Emeralds power while Sonic was in his Super form and released Dark Gaia it had an effect on him and he transformed into the werehog, this is only in Sonic Unleashed though as since it was caused by Dark Gaia being released and the Chaos Emeralds losing their power it would be assumed when they were both restored, so did Sonic's original form.

In the character bios from the Archie comics, it says he's "? ? ?" lbs. I guess it's because he's so fat that they cant tell how much he weighs. Dont let his physical appearance fool you. hes WAY fatter than he looks...

Does mephiles work with DR eggman?
No. Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik attempts to capture Elise because she holds the Flames of Disaster (Iblis). He wants to release Iblis and harness its power to conquer the world. Eggman knows if Mephiles escapes the Scepter of Darkness he will attempt to fuse with Iblis to create Solaris, which the Doctor would have no way of controlling, so he was keeping the Scepter of Darkness locked away. Once Rouge stole and inevitably broke the Scepter of Darkness, Mephiles was released, who then eventually managed to fuse with Iblis and create Solaris as Eggman feared. This forced the Doctor to ally with Sonic, Shadow, Silver & friends to stop Solaris.
