iron ore is all over and fairly easy to find. if you are near mountains some may be sticking out the sides, look for tan-ish color sticking out of it. otherwise you have to dig. you can find iron anywhere from just below the dirt layer to the bottom of the map. just dig a staircase down to bed rock, then hold shift and press f3 to see what it says next to the letter y off to the side. go up the stairs till you get to number 12. then just dig straight off to the side in a shaft. you find lots of iron, gold, redstone, coal, and occasional diamonds, caves, or lapis lazuli (blue coloerd gem)
