You don't. Once you have the 5 pieces of the map, and the new hidden island appears, continue to earn doubloons until you have the largest ship, the Phoenix Warbird. With that ship, and the right crew (Shipwright, Cannoneer), you can defeat Captain Crawfish. When you have, return to see the governor and he will give you the directions to the buried treasure.
