red 'whites out', just like the main character 'blacks out' when he or she loses. however, he will not disappear completely. every time you beat the kanto elite four (the stronger version of the johto elite four) he will respawn at the top of mt. silver. therefore, every one of your Pokemon can earn the legendary ribbon!
