You don't have to trade with him/her.( This answer is only for soul silver/ heart gold.) You go to the Ruins of Alph, and you use Rock Smash on smash-able rocks until you get a Old Amber Fossil. Then you go to the Pewter Museum and talk to the guy that's sitting in front of a PC. Revive your fossil. Come back within half an hour, and WA LA. A aerodactyl. If you want a girl one, you get save next to the guy and soft reset your Ds if it isn't a girl.
