yes into a haunter and the trade it to evolve into a gengar
Trade it from from Firered or Leafgreen. Or get a gameshark and enter the CORRECT code.
Wild Gengar can appear in the Old Chateau if you have Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, or LeafGreen in the GBA slot. In this case, it has a 4% chance of appearing.
You can't catch it using Poke Balls, 'cause it is'nt in Pokemon Emerald... But you can trade with other players, of other versions of the game...

To catch relicanth use Hypnosis by Gengar and get lots of Dive Balls
The Pokémon that appear in Diamond when Emerald is inserted are Pineco, Gligar, Shuckle and Teddiursa/Ursaring. Haunter and Gengar are also included in the game but Haunter and Gengar are added regardless of the Gameboy Advanced game as long as there's 1 inserted.
Put in a Pokemon GBA cartridge in the GBA slot (Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/FireRed/LeafGreen) and then go to the Haunted Mansion in Eterna Forest, inside you will have a very rare chance of finding a Gengar.
Gengar is not capable of learning Nightmare in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire or Emerald. Gengar can only learn Nightmare in the Generation 3 games of Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen however Gengar can also learn Nightmare in the DS games of Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver, Pokémon Black, Pokémon White, Pokémon Black 2 and White 2.
To get a Gengar, you must trade a Haunter and it will then evolve into a Gengar.
Gengar! I have a lvl 100 Gengar! He's AWESOME!
