In Fire Red and Leaf Green, you can obtain two Fossils. At the end of Mt. Moon, you will find a Super Nerd who is jealously guarding two Fossils. After defeating him in a battle, you will be able to take one of the two for yourself: the Helix Fossil, which resurrects as an Omanyte, or the Dome Fossil, which resurrects as a Kabuto. There is no way to obtain the second Fossil, so you will need to trade for whatever Pokémon you cannot revive.
The other fossil you can obtain is the Old Amber, located in the Pewter City Museum. Once you have Cut, you can enter the back door, which leads behind the reception counter. Talk to the man next to the pedestal to get the Old Amber, which resurrects as an Aerodactyl.
