You cannot find the Old Amber in Pokemon Soul Silver version. You can, however, go in the Underground in Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum, and then get it by digging. It is very rare, and you can only get it after you get the National Pokedex. It revives into Aerodactyl.
The Old Amber is included in HeartGold & SoulSilver - it can be found by randomly smashing rocks with the Rock Smash move.
It is not entirely random. Old Amber in SoulSilver and HeartGold is only found by smashing rocks in the Ruins of Alph. You can only find Old Amber there and nowhere else.
The above is not true. I used rock smash in the ruins where the unknown are. I used it on one of those little breakable rocks AND out popped an old amber.
it has something to do with arodactyle or however you spell it,you take it to the pewter city museum in kanto and they will do something to it you have to come back later (i dont know how long) and it can be revived in to arodactyle hope this helped :)oh by the way the one abover this is the one that is true co i have done it myself :)
To clear up any lingering confusion:
Old Amber CAN be found in Soul Silver by using rock smash on the small rocks around the Ruins of Alph. I have just done it myself.
You can find Old Amber in the ruins of alph by smashing rocks. I just did on 2/27/2011
