i need to know were they are too! And no you do not become a mermaid. Theres also an island once your on the 3rd island called crystal island. It can only be reached by swimming to it from the 1st island. Also all the hieroglyphics are in the same place for all the game systems.
Piece 1 - Deep Jungle - at jungle crossroads, or where the two paths fork, (on ground near jungle brush, easy to walk past)
Piece 2 - Ship Wreck Lagoon - on wrecked ship deck, twords the back.
Piece 3 - Pier Beach - near anchient pillars
Piece 4 - Dark Cave - near "llama" door (hieroglyphs will not open this door, get king's crown found on the third island to open)
Piece 5 - Skull Rock Jungle - near skull rock
Piece 6 - East River Plains - near quicksand strip (left front)
Piece 7 - South River Jungle - on river bank (behind the two rocks twards the left bankment.
Piece 8 - Volcano Jungle - up on the ledge you can walk on (by the portal to the top of the valcano)
Piece 9 - Geyser Plains - near the ancient doorway (to open geyser path need hammer & chisel, then inspect big boulder up on ledge)

Heiroglyphics are pretty much just randomly spread out across all the islands. They just look like small brown squares and from my experience there's about 3 on each island. Happy hunting!

I think you're supposed to get all of the hieroglyphics and make them into Wall Art. Once you have, inspect the doors and you're Sim will know what to do.
