For the best results, get your team to level 60. Between 55-60 would be sufficient, but 60 makes it a breeze. I found the most effective team to be:

Empoleon-Surf, Ice Beam, Flash Cannon

Staraptor-Fly, Aerial Ace, Close Combat

Roserade-Magical Leaf, Sludge Bomb, Shadow Ball, Energy Ball

Garchomp-Crunch, Dragon Claw, Earthquake

Electivire-Thunderpunch, Firepunch

Exeption:The only exception to this list is spiritomb. If you don't have a giratina, or use it for mostly exploring (ex: strength, fly, rock climb, cut, defog).

These guys give you type coverage and take advantage of their best attributes. Roserade's high Sp. Att. really makes a difference when you need to take out a ghost/psychic (especially Dusknoir) with Shadow Ball.

Empoleon is an all-star, being very effective against a lot of the Pokemon used by the elite four and also highly resistent due to its type. You may even want to raise it another few levels, because I found Cynthia's Garchomp's Earthquake tough when I was trying to get Ice Beam in. A few levels into the 60's would be a bonus. He's easy to train in Victory Road right near the exit to the Pokemon League so it's worth it.

Electivire saved me from needing a fire type because Firepunch combined with its respectable Attack pretty much destroys Aaron's bugs and helps against others (such as Cynthia's Roserade).

I also brought Rapidash because I had been raising it prior to teaching Electivire Firepunch and its a decent backup incase you run out of PP. But you shouldn't need anything other than those 5.

Also try a giratina for its high HP and use a PP up on shadow force to make its last longer. Use shadow force on Cynthia's spiritomb because dragon is super effective against psychic.
