Personally, I owned the gym with a level 37 Leafeon (Solar Beam, Magic Leaf, Synthesis and Quick Attack) and Level 40 Luxray (Thunder, Shock Wave, Spark, Tackle and Bite)

(i like to save before facing a leader because if i lose i turn of the power and level up and then face the leader again)
