It would be best if you use Ice-type pokemon, because the blackthorn gym leader has dragon-types, and ice-types are super effective against them. Dragon type moves are also super effective, but if your going to use dragon type moves, you should use NON dragon-type pokemon, only dragon type moves. Because they could probably faint you easily if you do, because, dragon-type moves are super effective on dragon-type Pokemon.

How do you get the badge from blackthorn city in soulsilver?
Well, you obviously have to defeat Claire, the gym leader in Blackthorn City. Some advantages over Claire are Ice Type Pokemon, and electric types. To get from Mahogany Town to Blackthorn City, defeat Team Rocket in their Hideout, which is secretly in the gift shop, downstairs. Then, you should be able to get past the man who usually wont let you through. Go through the Ice Cave, and GOOD LUCK!
