Effort Value is an internal stat list inside the Pokemon besides the obvious stats.
Depending on how your EVs are, it will affect the amount of points whatever stat is being 'EV Trained' gets.

When you train your Pokemon, the effort value (ev) isn't shown immediately. Remember that each Pokemon has a max of 512 effort value points and a max of 256 effort value points per stat. If you max out a stat with ev's, when you reach about level 70ish you should begin to see a big increase in your Pokemon's stats per level. Hope this helped ^^
