Breeding can be done with a male and a female Pokemon, at a Pokemon Daycare. If you leave just 1 Pokemon, it will simply level up; but with a male and female, a egg may develop. It is also possible to use any fe/male Pokemon with Ditto, and you will get an egg; it will hatch in the form of the earliest stage of the non-Ditto Pokemon (ex. If you left Ditto and Poliwrath, you'd get a Poliwag).

There are some Pokemon that cannot breed; this is because they are Genderless, typically found among rare, legendary Pokemon (Mewtwo, Mew, etc.), as well as Steel-types (Magnemite/Magneton/Magnezone, Beldum/Metang/Metagross, Klink/Klang/Klinklang), and others.

Breeding is taking two Pokemon and leaving them in the day care so you can get an egg.
