What is a sandbox game?

A sandbox game is a virtual world where their is a story line, but you are not stuck on the story line. You can basically walk around the virtual world and do whatever you want, along with the story line. These games usually last a person multiple years to complete because most players love the freedom the game gives.

Examples of a SandBox Game would be GodFather 2, The Incredible Hulk, made by marvel, Spider Man 2 and 3. Their are not too many of these types of games because the programming and design is extensive, but most will argue they are the best games out their.

I forgot to mention that some games have something called a sandbox mode. A sandbox mode is usually a feature where you can edit a map and create your own game using preset items and characters. A great example of this is Halo 3 Forge Mode.
