A castrati Tenor was a Tenor who had been castrated so he would not go through puberty, and would therefore not experience a change in his voice. Repulsive though the practice may seem to us today, Castrati Tenors were highly prized in the Opera Houses of the Baroque period (approximately 1600 to 1750). Young boy sopranos were hand-picked for selection to be castrated. They could develop into castrati sopranos, altos or tenors, and as they grwe, they would develop more powerful lung power. The Castrati had an extensive vocal range and, because women were forbidden to perform on stage, they could play both masculine and feminine parts in the operas of the time.

I am not sure if we are talking about the same thing, but I am going to take a shot in the dark and assume you mean castrato (pl.castrati) since I am not aware of a meaning for the word casterati in English. Castrati were usually choir boys/singers who were castrated before puberty to maintain their soprano or contralto range of voices. The practice proved to be pointless and excessive, since only a small percentage of castrati kept their desired voice ranges. I believe the last known castrato died around 1922. Castrati were very popular up until the 18th century and performed in Churches. Hope the information was helpful.

None are alive any more, but in the past, castrated male opera singer was called "castrato" meaning "the castrated one." The plural is "castrati."
The baroque period in the Italian opera was a period in which females were not able to perform in religious ceremonies. Castratos were males who had a minor surgery on their testicles before puberty in order to avoid a voice change, so that men could perform female roles.

It has been argued the entertainment personality Beyonce is an Hermaphrodite. Prior to the late nineteenth century- there were full-fledged- if that is the word artificial hermaphrodite singers in the Vatican choirs known as Castrati Brothers- this being a quasi-religious order. They sang in the alto-tenor range above a normal tenor but below a female soprano- Pope Leo XIII who shepherded the Church into the 20Th Century ( he died in l903) - promptly put an end to the Castrati bros early in his career- the groups were disbanded. It is not known if the celibacy laws applied to Castrati singers.

Males do not have soprano voices unless they have no testosterone. This means that only young boys can sing soprano. At one time, boys with particularly talented voices would be castrated so that they could continue to sing soprano. These were known as castradi.
