it can do several things. first off, if you've beat the champion and the person you mixed records with has a secret underground base you can battle them there in your game. you can also view different tv shows depending on what the other trainer has accomplished. plus the Pokemon fan club will talk about them. i don't know if this is in heart gold or not but in emerald you can battle the other trainer at the battle tower at the battle number that they lost at. they have the same Pokemon as when they entered the battle tower.
