You must open the mod with winrar this can be done by right clicking on the file selecting winrar after you select the "open with" option if you can't find it select other programs the select winrar. Once open you should be looking at a lot of files with .class at the end (eg fw.class might not be in there but its just an example. Then click the little windows button at the bottom that should pull up a menu then type in %appdata% and press enter a window should pop up that says .minecraft in it some where most likely at the top click that file and it should take you to your minecraft floder once in it click on "bin" then you should see a .jar file the says minecraft or minecraft.jar open that with winrar thhen drag all the class files ( from the mod file ) into the minecraft.jar file don't drag in any non .class files eg readmetxt you don't want in it some mods may need mod loader just do the exact same procedure to install it. HOPE THIS HELPED and if you still have trouble look up some mod tutorials on YouTube
you have to go to start, click run, click your .minecraft folder, take the downloaded mod (it has to be zipped) click open archive, then with the .minecraft folder, you find bin go in, and open minecraft's archive, then you move the files in the mod archive folder to the minecraft archives. (some things might be wrong, but that's because i used pure memory to answer this, and i have a bad memory. )
You download the mod and open it with a archiving program, Win-rar is what I use but there is also 7-zip, then you have to find your .minecraft folder. You can find it by searching %appdata% in your start menu. Open the .minecraft folder then open the bin folder. Inside the bin folder, there is the .jar. Open it with a archiving program. Look at the mod. If there is a Readme file, open it and follow what it says to do. Also, there is usually the instructions on the page that you found the mod. If there isn't a Readme folder, then open the mod with the archiving program and copy all of the .classes into the .jar or your .minecraft folder. Caution: If you get a black screen when opening minecraft after installing the mod, then it is because you didn't delete the META-INF folder in your minecraft jar. Hope this was helpful. Ask me if there is any other problems. -Aiya
you go download it then run it and put it in your mods folder if this does not work then read the installation instructions because this could be out of date
download minecraft forge, open it up and keep forge as is and hit ok, then find a mod, download the jar, and locate your minecraft folder go to mods folder, open that up and drag the mod jar into the folder and enjoy your mod. P.S. go to edit profile on minecraft launcher page and go to: use version, then scroll all the way to the bottom and click on the forge thing and then hit play and enjoy your mod.
For MACFirst download it from the website and open the downloaded file. If it is not a zip file, then compress it. Place it in the mod folder of minecraft by going to ~/Library then open Application Support. Find minecraft and open the folder labeled mods and place the zip file in the folder.
Depends on the mod. Either you mod folder in Run>%appdata%>.minecraft or they have to be installed into the minecrat.jar file itself. Check the mod details of whatever mod you're downloading.

1. Download and install both Modloader and Minecraft Forge. 2. Delete the "META-INF" folder in your minecraft.jar. 3. Download "The RC Mod vX.X.zip". 4. Open "The RC Mod vX.X.zip" and put the "mods" folder in the mods folder and the "resources" folder in the resources folder. 5. Shabam your done!

You dont put them in your texture pack folder, hence the name "texture pack folder". You need to get a program such as 7ZIP or WINRAR and extract both the mod folder and MC jar. Drag ALL mod files in the MC Jar and delete "Meta-Inf"
