The triforce is three golden triangles that were left behind by the goddesses when they finished making the world. Whoever touches it will have their wish granted. Each triangle represents something different: Power, Wisdom or Courage.
You cannot get the Triforce in any way. Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf all represent the pieces of the Triforce, so really, as Link, you have a bit of it the whole game.

Link can only get one part of the Triforce, because in the games he's only been known to use the Triforce of Courage. Ganondorf has one part and Zelda has the other part.
