It's called stone, and you get it by putting cobblestone on a furnace.
Simply combine 4 Stone(the smooth version, not cobblestone) in a square in either the crafting slot on your player or a crafting table to make stone bricks.
When you mine regular 'smooth' stone, you get cobblestone. This can be converted back to smooth stone by smelting it in a furnace.

You'll need four blocks of stone. Recipe OO OO O = stone You first have to smelt cobblestone into normal stone, or 'smooth' stone, then place the smooth stone in each square of your 2x2 crafting slot, to turn it into blocks of Stone Brick.
It works like a crafting table, but only for stone and stone related items.
