Personaly i think cyndaquil. If you would have to chose the second best proaboly totodile. Cyndaquil is a good fire starter because he is strong,cool,and awesome. Even though he evolves at Lv.14 then Lv.36 and totodile evolves at Lv.18 then Lv.30 cyndaquil is still better. If your planning on getting heart gold or soul silver chose cyndaquil, but for your second choice chose totodile. Chickorita is O.K. Totodile is not so bad , early last evolution. You can use Totodile for Surf and Whirlpool and Waterfall instead of having to waste team space to catch another water type. For me i have chose Chikorita because its 2 evolutions have great moves to learn and i have an awesome move set planned out. Personally : Chikorita First Place Cyndaquil Second Place Totodile Third Place ( Totodile is also part in Second Place thanks to Surf and etc. Its your choice )

I myself chose a cyndaquil, judging by type advantage a cyndaquil would defeat a Chikorita and if you are chosing a starter Pokemon for Heartgold Soulsilver or any other game then Cyndaquil is a better choice too, it is only affected by Rock, ground, and water moves while Chikorita is affected by poison, fire, ice, and flying. Typhlosion the evolved form of Cyndaquil has a high special attck and speed and can learn eruption which is the strongest fire move compared to its eefects and that it doen't need recharging for a turn (in games).

TOTODILE!!!! Cos Feraligatr is one of my faves and when you get up to the Pokemon league Croconaw learns ice fang quite fast, and because Lance uses dragon type Pokemon, ice moves have lots of effect on dragon Pokemon. Also, he's awesome! XD Cyndaquil, I would say second best. Since he learns ember, hes quite good on johto gyms, but once in Kanto he struggles a bit more. Dont pick Chikorita!! May be quite cute, but its not strong. Will even find it hard to win the gyms of the Johto region, in which will find it REALLY hard to take on Kanto. PICK TOTODILE, if you want the best. :D

It depends on how you train them. Generally, Charizard is the best starter Pokemon because of it's stats. But I like Typhlosion better. It's up to you.

In my opinion, I think that it's Totodile because when he evolves, he can learn ice fang, which is super effective against Chikorita. I did pick Totodile as my starter, but Chikorita doesn't have very good anything, and Typhlosion would get owned by Feraligatr any day.
