Yes it was in the early 60's. It was very slow partner dance as implied in the name and you were very up close with your partner! What's more it was as popular with the girls as it was with the boys! I recall a song of the day with the title ' Everyone does the creep' Not the Radiohead version many years later but in a similar tempo. Oddly I have searched YouTube to find a version but to no avail. Quite frankly it was an excuse to get closer than you would in a waltz. It didn't last for long.
