well, hints there is plenty they have romantic feelings for each other (I wouldn't say at the start, but how it develops, even they say it kinda it in the end when they say their private goodbye), the ending of 5D's pretty much says sooner or later they will be together as a couple, they love each other in a romantic way, so yeah is cannon.

Yusei entrusted her with Stardust dragon, something he hasn't entrusted to anybody else in his entire life. He also was the one who personally taught her how to ride duel, and at one point in the episode (SUB not the kiddy crap) he held her by the waist and before she fell, he caught her and she blushed and he smiled. That thing alone is proof they are into each other. Another note is (SUB VERSION, not kiddy version) in episode 75 when aki came in dressed for her bike, with her busts being revealing Yusei smirks and comments are made about her looking good, and she blushes and says she never liked herself. Also, Aki was the one who went to save Yusei when he was captured, and also thinks about him, and is going to duel Sherry for him in the upcoming episodes, something is definitely going to come out of that one.

Also, Martha pointed out that he likes her and he had nothing to say to that but attempt to shut her up out of his shyness about it. Then comes him personally teaching her how to ride duel and had her around the waist at one point in the episode. Then he caught her before she fell and she blushed and he smiled. Now for proof she loves him. When Yusei was captured she was the one who went to go and save him, she risked her own life for him as he did for her on countless occasions. She also thinks about him a lot, and whenever Yusei is in danger she knows it automatically, when her mark shines, she knows when Yusei is dueling while she doesn't know who the other signer is that is dueling. Proving she and him share a special connection, which means they're in love, their feelings became one. And when her birthmark shines Yusei's mark shines directly after it, and at one point, it was only his shinning when her's was shinning in her duel. Proving further those two have a special connection. In the upcoming episodes those two are speculated to admit they're love, in the Arc, aki duels Sherry for Yusei, something is definitely going to come out of that.
