If you already have HughesNet satellite internet you might see how it connects to your computer. PS3 can only be connected with either a Ethernet Cable or a wireless signal. You can not use the USB port in the front of the PS3 to connect to the internet. PS3 is supposed to work only with broadband or DSL. The related link for Hughesnet listed a phone number and they indicated that while it would work it would provide poor online game performance and was not recommended. They did say that it connected to the PC or other device with an ethernet cable.

I'm not sure that the Hughes Net works for PS3. It is for people who can't get DSL and Cable which is what the PS3 requires for the internet see the link for Hughes net understanding your serviceThe information below was copied from related link and it is clear that any multiplayer PS3 game would not play well with a delay, let alone the half second delay they forecast. The ethernet cable would go into a router connected to the modem for Hughesnet. It might still be possible to connect the PS3 and while you could not use it for game playing you might still be able to get software updates and Playstation Store Add ons and Demos.Twitch Games. Time-sensitive applications that require fractions-of-a-second user inputs (such as multi-player "twitch" games or real-time equities trading) are not recommended with HughesNet® due to latency issues. Latency refers to the amount of time it takes a packet of data to travel across a network. With satellite service, that data must travel up to the satellite and back (about 45,000 miles). This round trip adds about a half-second delay to the total time your computer takes to communicate with a Website or host server.
no, the internet is only needed for full use of all the PS3 features and Games can be played without going online
The cost to play online for the PS3 is limited to what you have to pay for online access. The Sony PlayStation Network does not charge to use the internet. If for example you already have cable internet you can play the PS3 for hundreds of hours a month with no additional charges except to your electric bill for the power used to run the PS3 and HDTV.
