Yes you have to trade a Pokemon for the Larvitar with someone you know that has Pokemon version gold. The anser above is rong, you can't trade between gold and emereld. You need Fire red or leaf green, and another GBA and a link cable. Or you could just get a GameShark if you don't mind cheating.
