That's really a subjective question. In my opinion 12-14 is old enough to play Call of Duty, they're old enough to know the difference between violence in a video game and reality. However, I would not let a 12-14 year old use a headset online, not unless you want them exposed to all sorts of angst and grief. Of course, you can make it so that they can only talk to their friends over the headset by going into the console's privacy settings and selecting "Friends Only" for voice chat.

The fact is, the internet is a haven for bullies hiding behind the mask of anonymity. Most parents wouldn't want their children being exposed to that kind of negativity and risk becoming jaded at such a young age. Call of Duty: Yes. Xbox Live: Under your supervision.
