it uses up 200/380w max The older models use the most and the slims use about 100/250w max The newer 160 GB and 320 GB slims now use just 100/200 max. The newest unreleased Super Slim will use 80/180 Max

It can, Overheating is very bad for electronics and will always shorten the life of an electrical device. That is why all the newer models continue to use less power than the earlier models and are able to run cooler.
