After the release of the WAW they released 3 DLCs or map packs although the were already working on Call of Duty Black Ops and had been. It's not really a matter of how long it takes them to make the game. The games are planned to release every two years in time for the best selling period in early November and so must be completed early enough to allow the marketing and distribution to have a successful release. It the case of this game they shattered earlier records selling 7 million units in one day. Treyarch is already well under way on the next Call of Duty series game even though the fourth and last DLC Rezurrection was just released for the PS3 on September 22 2011.
