I suspect it took the same amount of time as all Video Games, around 2 years. You didn't specify which mario game, but Mario has been around for 25 years now.

"So long-eh, Bowser." The "long-eh" part is a reference to Mario's stereotypical Italian accent.

Super Mario Bros It's a Nintendo Entertainment System game and it was created in 1985. Did you know that the earliest the character of Mario appeared was in a very old school game called Donkey Kong.

On the ds, dsi, gameboy, and wii you cant save unless you get to the next tower. Sorry. It took me a long time to figure that out.
It's Mario, because Gandalf is in The Hobbit, and The Super Mario Brothers franchise was released in 1980's, but The Hobbit was released not long after the release of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword on the Nintendo Wii in 2011.
my geuss is hes trying to stall the show as long he can but why dosen't someone just go to hes blog and ask him i know hes still alive!
Probably long.
I had actually never played Super Mario Bros.: Lost Levels, but, I have to say, Super Mario Bros. 2 is pretty crummy. They replace the goombas with shy guys. There are so many enemies, and so little power ups. If you get a GAME OVER, you have to start all over again. You start with only 3 lives. They replace the bosses with Birdo, and replace bowser with a giant burping frog. At the end of each stage, you have to battle Birdo. It's not multi-player. The Invincibility Stars takes so long to get to you. My last complaint is that when you finish the game, Mario wakes up from a dream. It was all a dream. So, to make a long story short, Super Mario Bros. 2 is a rip-off. P.S. Nintendo didn't even create the game! It was originally a Japanese game called Yomekojo Doki Doki Panic.

It can technically last forever as long as Mario continously refills Fludd with water.
Mario Xavier goes by Jin Long ("Golden Dragon" in Chinese), Super Mario, and The X-Man.
As long as Miyamoto lives, Mario will live. actually their making a new Mario galaxy called [suprise suprise] Mario galaxy 2
To cut a long story short, no you can't.
As long as Shigeru Miyamoto (Creator of Mario and friends) and Charles Martinet (Mario's Voice Actor) and the rest of Nintendo stay alive, Mario will always be around with new games and new adventures! Yahoo!
