Teleology is the the Aristotelian concept that everything has a final cause, and end to works towards. "Telos" is the idea of a a thing acting on its unique capacity for function (for example, a man is a rational being, so the cause for which we should act toward is a life of reason). Entelechy is similar, the idea of self-fulfillment, striving for some sort of completion or realization/actualization.

So, for ontology, the question of, "What is real? What is reality composed out of?" it gives everything a purpose for being in a state of existence.
