you have to find two secret swicthes in the trash bins, if you get one wrong it will reset itself.
If you start a new game in heartgold or soulsilver will it reset pokewalker progress as in going back to only having 2 routes?
yea though first you have to reset pokewalker or else its not gonna be compatible when you start a new game.

No, there is no way for the Pokéwalker to reset itself by just using the Pokéwalker buttons. You can use any Pokémon HeartGold or Pokémon SoulSilver in order to reset the Pokéwalker even if the original linked save file has been deleted. You can reset a Pokéwalker from any Pokémon HeartGold or Pokémon SoulSilver by selecting "Connect to Pokéwalker" in the main menu and then holding down the Down button on the D-Pad along with the X and L buttons. This will prompt you to reset the Pokéwalker regardless of whether it's the original save file that was previously linked to your Pokéwalker or not.
