You need to get HP UP for HP, Protein for Attack, Iron for defense, Calcium for Special Attack, Zinc for Special defence or Carbos fore speed. You can buy these from the 5th floor of Celadon department store.
Select one and select use and then select the Pokemon you want to use it on to boost the pokemons stats in that area.
It also depends what Pokemon your Pokemon battles, I had a Pokemon around level 30 which I MADE SURE only battled unknowns. As a result its special attack rose significantly e.g. 10-20 stat points per level up (SPPLU).Information on which Pokemon to battle to increase certain stat points can be found almost anywhere on the web, plus at www.psypokes.com/dex/iv.php you can type in your pokemons species, nature and stat points and it tells you its IV/Base stats.
