Iron doors in Minecraft have to be open with redstone mechanics. So to open the door you would have to connect a lever, a pressure plate, or button to the door.
Yes they can. Iron doors are very hard but not hard enough.....
something called silverfish will be able to eat wood. now zombies can break down doors! And villagers can open doors. Now in 1.2, zombies can break through wooden doors, not iron doors. And if you are playing in a PvP minecraft server, an enemy faction(army) can overtake you territory and open your doors. Also if there are wooden pressure plates outside the door mob can stand on them and the door will open.

Yes and no - Iron Doors can't be opened normally, they can only be opened when supplied by charge, which can be provided by levers or buttons, but also by redstone circuitry. Villagers can activate pressure plates, so if you wanted to add Iron Doors to a village, you could set up a system of pressure plates and redstone repeaters to make a door stay open for a few seconds once the plate activates.
Iron doors are normally in the closed position. To open it, you have to run 'electricity' or redstone to the block that the door is resting on.

Wooden doors in Minecraft are easier to get than iron (steel) doors. Most people use the wooden doors for their first house, since the materials to craft a wooden door is much easier to obtain than iron(steel) doors. Wooden doors can be opened by right or left clicking, while iron(steel) doors cannot be opened neither left or right clicking. To open an iron(steel) door, it has to be powered by redstone. Which means to make a simple user-friendly iron(steel) door, place a button or a lever next to the iron(steel) door so it can be opened easily. Iron(steel) doors also has a better blast resistance than wooden doors (As you may have already guessed by the materials it uses). The similarities between them is that both can be powered by redstone. But the bad point about wooden doors is that if you create a redstone circuit which powers the door kept to be closed, you can change the circuit by just right or left clicking the wooden door. But since iron(steel) doors cannot be opened unless triggered by redstone, iron(steel) doors are usually made for adventure map/servers that requires redstone circuits.
No, not that i know of. I've heard a few people say they can but i don't believe it.
