It is the same as how you can set Simcity 4 -- I have a wide screen monitor and wanted my own screen bigger. Change the desktop shortcut to the following line, changing the 1680x1050 to whatever you wish the resolution to be:
"C:/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims Life Stories/TSBin/SimsLS.exe" -CustomResolution:enabled -r1680x1050x32
-r800x600x32, -r1024x768x32, -r1380x768x32 all worked for me--1380 by 768 by 32 bit graphics is the max my monitor can display so I do not know how many other screen sizes would be compatible.
