My torchic was a girl and i did nothing... fyi even if it is a girl you still cant breed it.

You can breed starters together and the most I did was with two starters.
actually all i did was save in front of birches bag and keep restating until i got a female... took about 7 or 8 tries for torchic. and you can breed starters. only the first form below
mudkip-----------any water type
treeko------------any grass or dragon type
torchic------------any fire or ground type
