To access the Mods and Textures Pack Folder
1. Open minecraft
2. Login
3. Press Mods & Texture packs
4. One the bottom left hand corner, press Open texture pack folder
Or, for Windows 7 (Hidden Files must be viewable to use this method)
1. Open your personal folder
2. Click on AppData
3. Click on Roaming
4. Click on .minecraft
5. Click on texturepacks
To add Texture Packs
6. Drag the texture pack file (.zip) into the texturepacks folder
7. Open Minecraft and press Mods & Texture packs again
To Use Texture Packs
8. Click on the texture pack desired
9. Click Done
10. Play the Game
Note: If your texture pack is shown on the list in Mods & Texture packs but you can't click on it, it means your texture pack needs to be installed using MC Patcher.
Note: On the Webpage/Website you downloaded you texture pack from, it should have say whether you need MC Patcher or not.
To use MC Patcher:
1. Download it (the link is under "Sources and related links" below this answer)
2. Open it
3. Check the box that says texture pack
4. Click Browse and open the texture pack zip file
5. Click Patch
6. Close MC Patcher
7. Run Minecraft and enjoy!
Texture packs are absolutly free, just search minecraft texture packs, and you can download one.
find the texture pack you want then download it and put it in the texture packs folder that it shows you on the textures packs screen on minecraft.

Then Open Minecraft And Appear!

Do not use the Library in the macintosh HD Drive. Then you open up minecraft, then you go into texture packs and mods. Then choose the texture pack, then say ok, then play minecraft :)
you can download texture packs from minecraftforum.net or sites like planet minecraft, and just search for a texture pack. :D(p.s. I prefer the faithful pack)

I don't think there are any black and white texture packs for Minecraft. There may be something wrong with your copy of Minecraft...
