Well it is according to what you want to beta test for. E.g.Toontown (I am 11 sodon'tlaugh) They have beta testing avaliable to everyone who is a member :( I am not so I cant but the bad thing is there could be a lot of glitches

A software beta test is a test release of the software. Normally beta testers then take the software and test it out and report any bugs in the software. A few more tests down the road is called a Release Candidate then after those there is the final version.

A brief explanation of the difference between beta and alpha test is that alpha test is usually in-house and is part of basic development. Beta test is right before product release and typically includes customer input.
