In your saves for minecraft, copy the world that you want to make into a server world. Be sure to copy the entire folder. Open your server folder and paste it there. In the server properties file, change the name of the server to the name of your world's folder. Then launch the server and it should be your exact world.

he doesn't have a server, he plays minecraft on a local, single-player world.

Either go into the single player menu in Minecraft and select which one you want or add the map/world into your "saves" folder. If you want to add maps to your Multiplayer then just put the map into the folder your server app is in then add the name of the map into the "server.properties" folder for the game to see it.

Not on single player. On Multiplayer you can though.

For single player, maps can be extracted to %appdata%/.minecraft/saves. For multiplayer (provided you're the host of the server), maps should be extracted to your server folder, with 'server.properties' edited in Notepad to reflect the world map's name.

Depends on whether you are playing single player or multiplayer. Single player is not long see related link Multiplayer is much longer and can continue into the zombie map
Play Single Player.
firstly download the newest version of the map, you should now have a zip file, extract it and place it in an easily accesible place. the steps are differnet for single and multiplayer. for single player go to your .minecraft folder and find saves and simply place the extracted file there and when you load up MC it will now be a singleplayer worlds list. for multiplayer you have to find the world folder, delete that and place the extracted map in there and rename it to "world" when you load up the sevrer the world will be changed to the cops and robbers map.
