Normally, it should not cause any problems installing the game and playing it on mac, as far as I know. My cousin has a MacBook Pro and The Sims 3 works fine on it. (She has also installed all the expansion packs, so these should not cause any problems.) Maybe someone who's specialised in this kind of question could tell you more. I hope this helps you!

ON PC/MAC: I believe that Sims Ambitions does require Sims 3 for PC/Mac as it is an expansion pack. However I do not have the PC/Mac version so I am unsure.
