While the above is mostly true, to get the best performance out of your copy of MC, you'd need a 64-bit version of Java installed on your computer. A guide on how to install 64-bit Java has been included in the Related Links section.

First off, what are you even doing with a Windows 2000 operating system? You should get Windows 7. Second, theoretically, it COULD work, but if you're using an original Windows 2000 computer, the graphics card isn't powerful enough. My advice: upgrade. Or wait 2 months for Windows 8.
You have prob got the 64bit AVG so you could try to get the 32bit version. ( altought it still might not work) OR you could buy Windows 7 and that would work with the 64bit AVG as all Windows 7 systems are 64 bit

No, not unless all of the following .Confirm that the computer's processor and motherboard are both 64bit. All 64bit Windows Operating systems will only work on computers that have both 64bit processor and 64bit motherboard architectures.Confirm the computer has no less then the other minimum hardware requirements (Processor Speed, Ram memory, Hard Drive memory, etc.) for the Windows 7 64bit version you want to install.Windows XP 32bit must be removed/deleted before doing a clean install of Windows 7 64bit on the hard drive.
Microsoft has rewritten the memory management manager for Windows 7 as Vista was poor (as we all know). Microsoft apparently did extensive studies and research to get this right for Windows 7 (probably because Vista was such a flop)
