no you do not have to have an hdmi for ps3 but i would recommend it to play your games in hd because hdmi stands for hi-definition multimedia interface.
The HDMI cable is for the PS3 to connect to HDTVs and is not needed for standard TVs which do not even have HDMI inputs. If your TV has HDMI inputs you need to purchase a HDMI cable before you spend your money on a new game, Movie, download or anything else because it is not giving you a picture from the PS3 in HD
You don't need to. The PS3 comes with the A/V cable that has HDMI input for the side that goes into the PS3 and three RCA color coded plugs on the other side. If you want to use a HDMI cable all that is needed to to purchase one and plug it in to your HDTV HDMI input and into the PS3 If you want another cable that came with the PS3 ask around everyone using the PS3 with a HDMI cable has an unused PS3 A/V cable stuff somewhere
YES on the hdmi mode just need the hdmi cable and plug it in the monitor to the ps3

The AV cable that comes with the PS3 is not for HDTV set up. You need to purchased a HDMI cable or a Sony PS3 component cable and then it should work.

In order for the PS3 to work best on a HDTV you need to have or purchase either an HDMI or a component AV cable and connect the PS3 to the HDTV. The PS3 will play on a HDTV when it is connected with the AV cable that was provided, but it will not be in HD

You need an HDTV for it to work and the TV has to have an HDMI connection. Then you need to turn your HDTV to the location for the HDMI that was connected
For your PS3 connection you need WiFi or an ethernet cable that is connected to the internet. The HDMI cable only connects the PS3 to the HDTV and will not provide the internet connection.
take your hdmi cable and plug one end into the hdmi port in the back of the ps3 and the other end into your TV.
You only need the HDMI cable.
I plugged the HDMI cable into the HDTV and into the PS3. Then I went to the settings for both the HDTV and the PS3 slim and set them for HDMI and sync. When it works right putting a disc into the PS3 will turn on the HDTV and also switch the HDTV over to that HDMI input rather than a cable box or similar item even if it was on the cable box when you last used the HDTV.
