Yes I can use my Sony Bravia BR6 HDTV remote to play PS3 Blue ray Discs and DVDs including the play, stop, pause, fast forward and other functions. I do not know if every Sony TV remote works like this only that mine does and when I purchased a Sony Home theater I found that remote also worked

Your remote works on a different system than the Bluetooth the PS3 uses. The HDMI sync on my slim PS3 ( Fat PS3s lack the hardware for HDMI Sync) allows me to use my Sony HDTV Remote and also my Sony Home Theater Remote even though they are not Bluetooth to control the Playing of DVDs and Blue Ray Discs and the selections from the PS3 menu bar. I can not sync my Cable remote to do anything on the PS3 even though I can get it to work some features for the Home Theater and HDTV If you want to sync the PS3 optional remote you need to plug it in to the PS3 with the charging cable to get it to sync with the PS3
No it is Blue tooth and TVs do not use that they use a system that has to have line of sight, but my Sony TV controller works to play DVDs and blu ray discs on the PS3 so does the Sony Home theater remote
No, you do not. The regular game controller will work just fine. If you have a Sony HDTV and use a HDMI cable the HDTV remote will play the disc This may also work on other HDTV remotes, but I know that it works with the Sony HDTV
you use a USB 2.0 plug and plug in your psp to a ps3 and you can do remote play.
No Nintendo and Sony are totally different makers!
